Second Grade Grandparents Day

Second grade students will perform a variety of dances for Grandparents Day. Grandparents should plan to bring lawn chairs as students will dance outside.
Parking will be available at the bottom of the hill, side streets, and on the west side of the building only,
due to arriving busses. Grandparents should arrive at 2:15 pm and stay outside. In case of rain, the event
will be held in the gym where lawn chairs are not needed.
Second Grade Music Goals:
1. Sing with a light head voice and match pitch.
2. Sing within the pentatone using good quality: diction, dynamics, and blending voices.
3. Accurately read and notate quarter note, eighth note and quarter rest rhythms.
4. Perform various dances by moving to the beat.
5. Play melody lines and ostinati on pitched percussion.
Current Songs and Objectives:
"Lucy Locket" - respond to dynamics in order to find an object
"The Troika" - perform dance movements to the beat
Rotating Circle - perform written rhythms and dynamics on classroom instruments
Spider, Spider - identify and use dynamics within a chant
"Hear the Rooster Crowing" - read from a vocal score and sing with dynamic contrast
"Mexican Hat Dance" - move to the rhythm of the music
"The Hora" - perform a grapevine step to the beat
"Hoe Ana" - tell a story through hand motions to music accompaniment
Past Activities and Objectives:
"My Father's House" - play a melody line on the xylophone
"Peter and the Wolf" - idenitify instruments of the orchestra
"We Are Playing in the Forest" - sing a solo on pitch
"Pizza, Pizza, Daddy-O" - call and response form and sing a solo on pitch
"In and Out the Dusty Bluebells" - sixteenth notes and rhythm vs. beat
Concert Songs - appropriate performance behaviors
"Dinah" - sixteenth notes
"Down in the Valley" - impovise movement
"Pumpkin, Pumpkin" - sixteenth notes and improvising movement
"Carnivalito" - rhythm and form
"Cannon Canon" - sing in a round/canon
Goldilocks chant - proper mallet hold and high and low notes on xylophone
"Ama Lama" - echo singing and vocal improvisation
"John Kanakanaka" - maintain a steady beat, create beat motions, improvise lyrics
Beethoven's Seventh Symphony, mvt. 2 - demonstrate understanding of long and short values, piano, repeat sign, rest
"Closet Key" - call and response, solo singing
